The Broadhurst Park (Project Name: Moston Community Stadium ) is a football stadium on the Ronald Johnson Playing Fields in the district Moston in the northeastern English city of Manchester . The club's own venue of the current seventh division club FC United of Manchester has 4,400 seats since its completion. In addition to the Red Rebels , the stadium is the sporting home of FC Moston Juniors through a partnership.

history

FC United of Manchester was founded in 2005 by former Manchester United fans . The reason for this was the takeover of the club in the middle of the year by the US billionaire Malcolm Glazer and the increasing commercialization of the club as well as football. In the absence of an own venue, the FCUM played for their home games from the 2005/06 season to the 2013/14 season in Gigg Lane of Bury FC . From the 2014/15 season until the move into its own venue, the games of FC United took place in the Bower Fold of the Stalybridge Celtic , which can hold 6,500 visitors .

The idea of building a club's own stadium came up two years after it was founded in 2007. However, it should take until 2010 for a concept to be published. The fans are contributing over two million pounds to the construction costs out of their own pocket . The rest of the sum was raised through public and private institutions. Contrary to what was initially planned, the stadium in Moston was built on Lightbowne Road and not in the northeastern Newton Heath , where Manchester United was first located.

The building permit was granted in October 2011 by the building authority of the city of Manchester, and according to plan, the Moston Community Stadium with a clubhouse and 5,000 seats, several playing fields and a parking area should be completed in August 2014. Resistance against the construction arose among the residents and the project for the new building was suspended. In March 2013, the residents' objection to the building permit issued by the city council was rejected by the appeals court. This cleared the way for the stadium to be built and the project could be continued.

The first (unofficial) groundbreaking ceremony took place on November 17, 2013, with the participation of several hundred fans. The official groundbreaking ceremony followed the next day. By spring 2014, the site was cleared, the earthworks and pile foundations were carried out and the foundations poured. In mid-February of the year, the first prefabricated steel parts of the grandstands were built. At the end of April 2014, almost all of the steel scaffolding in the spectator stands was up and the first concrete parts were installed. The original completion date in August of that year could not be kept due to delays such as the unusually dry weather for the region. The stadium construction began to take shape in October 2014, and the first rows of plastic seats in the club colors red, black and white could be installed on the main stand. The new inauguration date was set for December 2014. According to data from October, the construction costs are six million pounds.

The completion date had to be postponed again; The last time the construction was completed was February 2015. The new venue was still under construction towards the end of April 2015. An exact date for the end of the work or the inauguration was not fixed for a long time. Meanwhile, FC United of Manchester made it to the sixth class Conference North 2015/16.

After several delays and interruptions, the stadium was put into operation in May 2015. Before the official opening, an encounter was scheduled for May 16 as a test run for the venue. The first team of FC United of Manchester met a selection of former players called Invitational XI . The clash ended with a 3-2 win for the Red Rebels in front of 3,241 spectators. The inauguration of the stadium was celebrated on May 29, 2015. The opening game was played in front of 4,232 visitors from the FCUM and the Portuguese record champions Benfica Lisbon (0: 1). The initially targeted construction costs of £ 4.5 million increased to £ 6.3 million by the end.

When the work is completed, Broadhurst Park will have four grandstands with 4,400 seats and a floodlight system . The seats in the stadium are distributed across the main stand. The back straight and the crossbars behind the gate are covered standing room ranks. Training grounds with artificial and natural grass are available behind the main grandstand .

Surname

In April 2014 the decision was made about the future name of the home of FC United. From an offer of over 100 proposals, seven names were selected for a vote. The 3,000 club members could choose from the names Broadhurst, Broadhurst Park, FCUM Hall, Lightbowne Road, Ronald Johnson Ground, The Boardwalk and United of Manchester Stadium . The winner of the proposal was Broadhurst Park emerge from the election.
