Malcolm Glazer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Malcolm Irving Glazer (born August 15, 1928 in Rochester , New York ; † May 28, 2014 ibid) was an American entrepreneur and owner of sports companies ( operating companies or sports franchises). He was the fifth of seven children of Jewish immigrants from Lithuania.

Glazer was President and General Manager of First Allied Corporation , a holding company that bundles its various business areas. He held a majority stake in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from Florida , who play American football in the National Football League (NFL). He also owned the English football club Manchester United .

He was married and the father of five sons and one daughter: Avram (* 1960), Kevin , Bryan , Joel (* 1970), Darcie and Edward .

Doing business in sports

In March 2003, Malcolm Glazer began buying up Manchester United shares. He increased his stake to 28 percent by 2005 and after a long tug-of-war the billionaire secured another 29 percent on May 12, 2005, which he bought from Irish entrepreneurs John Magnier and John Paul McManus. He thus held the majority and bid for the remaining shares. The total value of his offer was £ 790 million .

Glazer wrote the loan taken out for purchase to the football company, so that Manchester United has to pay £ 80 million a year to repay it.

On May 16, 2005, Glazer was able to increase its stake to 75 percent, which allowed him to take the club off the stock exchange. On June 28, he already owned 98 percent of the shares, which made compulsory compensation for the remaining small shareholders possible. This made the soccer company private property of the Glazer family. Malcolm Glazer's sons Joel, Avram and Bryan have been named to the board.

Glazer died at the age of 85 on May 28, 2014 in Rochester. He has been in poor health since suffering a stroke in 2006 and his sons Joel, Bryan, and Ed took over day-to-day business for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had already given Manchester United his six children before his death.

Charity

Established in 1999, the Glazer Family Foundation provided children's programs, tickets, grants, and benefits, and donated $ 5 million to build the Children's Museum in downtown Tampa. As part of the Glazer Family Foundation's Vision Program, visual impairments should be recognized and treated early enough in school children. Another of Glazer's activities is the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, an organization that promotes amateur sports activities, to which he donated $ 2 million.
