Brokeloh is a village and eastern part of the municipality of Landesbergen in the district of Nienburg / Weser in Lower Saxony . The place is connected to both the neighboring Husum and the Landesbergen community center via Kreisstraße 8 .
history
The place name is probably derived from “Loh” in “Brok”, meaning “elevated forest area in the marshland”, which very accurately describes the place Brokeloh lying on a ridge with the surrounding marshland and moorland. Brokeloh is first mentioned in a document in a letter from the Loccum monastery from 1277.
Brokeloh can be used as part of the headquarters of the Barons von Münchhausen , which was in the Munichehausen settlement on the Haarberg between the present-day towns of Rehburg and Winzlar . The von Münchhausen family derived their name from the settlement. The family appears for the first time in a document in 1183 with dominus Rembertus, pater Gyselheri de Monechusen , with whom the family line begins. The name is derived from the nearby Cistercian monastery Loccum , founded in 1163 , whose guards were the first knights there as ministerials .
In 1545 a moated castle was built in Brokeloh, from which the Brokeloh manor developed. The castle was built by Clamor von Münchhausen, which his son Erich-Hans completed as a four-wing complex around 1600. It went bankrupt two years later and the plant passed to different owners. In 1734 it was bought by the bailiff Christian Eberhard Niemeyer , whose descendants still own the property today.
Brokeloh became one of the four localities of the municipality of Landesbergen on March 1, 1974.
