description

Brommersbachtal

The three source brooks arise west of Eicherscheid and flow through a still-used pasture area, bordered by beech hedges . The main stream flows through a notch valley with natural slope and alluvial forest remains. There are slate rocks locally. The species-rich stream fauna indicates good water quality. The banks are lined with alder , ash , maple and hornbeam . The northern slope of the lower reaches is forested with beech trees that are around 150 years old .

Brombach valley floodplain with side valleys

The Brombach flows parallel to the Brommersbach. It rises south of Huppenbroich and flows into the Rur not far from the mouth of the Brommesbach. The headwaters also begin here in flat hollow valleys, some of which are intensively grazed and lined and divided by old beech hedges. Down the stream, the Brombach and its side stream flow through a deeply cut valley. The stream fauna indicates good water quality. The shore is lined throughout with old alder riparian forest herbs, Chrysosplenium -Quellfluren, butterbur and reed canary grass stands. There are a few ponds in the area, one of which is a small foil pond with flood swathing reeds as amphibian spawning waters . The lower slopes are hain book rich woodlands of oak remains . The trees are overgrown with epiphytic lichens . Due to the conditions, the shrub layer is sparse, the soil is richly covered with a layer of herbs that are poor in species.

Protection purpose

The habitats are to be protected for many plants, fungi and animals that are endangered according to the Red List . The area primarily serves to maintain a near-natural section of flowing water as a habitat for endangered plant and animal species and to maintain and develop natural habitats in accordance with Annex I of the Habitats Directive. Here come z. B. beaver , great mouse-eared bat , pond bat , kingfisher , whinchat and leg breaker . These biotope types can be found in this area: springs, wet and humid grassland, near-natural, unspoilt stream sections, rocks on the surface, rough meadows and pastures as well as alluvial forests .
