Bros (band)

Bros was a British pop band from the 1980s around twin brothers Matt and Luke Goss .

Band history

The two twins formed the band Cavier with their school friend Craig Logan in the late 1980s, which they later renamed Bros. They found an experienced manager in Tom Watkins who also looked after the Pet Shop Boys , and in Nicky Graham a successful hit producer. In 1987 they first gained attention with their debut single I Owe You Nothing . With the second release When Will I Be Famous? The big international breakthrough followed in the same year. The song reached number two in the UK and made it into the top ten in many European countries. The song even made it into the US singles charts , and it came in at number 10 in the US dance charts . The two attractive twins in particular attracted young audiences and they became the most successful boy group of that time. Their female followers were called "Brosettes". Four top five hits in their home country followed in 1988, the re-released I Owe You Nothing made it to number one , and in the USA it became the second top ten dance hit. The debut album Push came in at number two and sold over 1.2 million copies. They were named British Newcomer of the Year at the BRIT Awards . Internationally, however, the success began to decline during this year.

In January 1989 Logan and the two brothers broke up. The bass player couldn't cope with the pressure to succeed and the limelight and so the split came about. He then stayed loyal to the music business and worked successfully in the background, among other things he was the manager of Tina Turner and headed the RCA label . The twins continued as a duo. The separation was followed by long legal disputes over the band's income, six lawsuits were in favor of Logan.

The success of Bros continued for two, at least in their homeland. In 1989 they had three more top ten hits and a second album entitled The Time came to number four on the UK charts. At the end of the year they took part in the Band Aid II charity project . In the following year, however, only one single was released and a break followed. With the third album Changing Faces in 1991, however, they lagged behind their previous successes and finally the brothers broke up the band and went their separate ways. Matt Goss pursued a solo career as a singer and for a long time was repeatedly represented in the charts with smaller hits. Luke Goss became a musical performer and eventually an actor.

In their career, Bros sold over 16 million records worldwide and toured the world twice. In 2008 plans for a reunification were first announced, but later discarded. Even in the years that followed, this was brought up again and again without it having come true.

Her best-known synthpop success When Will I Be Famous is repeatedly covered by other bands in different styles (e.g. Westlife , Audiosmog feat. Tobias Schlegl ). The pop star candidate Mehdi had a smaller hit in the German charts in 2007 (number 54).

On October 5th, 2016, Matt and Luke announced that the big ReUnion would take place on August 19th, 2017 with a concert at the O2 Arena in London. This was sold out within a few minutes and so the announcement of a full UK tour followed in August 2017 with a total of 7 concerts in London (2), Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow.
