biography

As a son from a good and influential family, Brother Theodore grew up very sheltered in Düsseldorf and studied in Cologne . The Gottliebs were well-known publishers at the time and were good friends with the physicist Albert Einstein , who was visiting the Gottliebs for three weeks in 1926. In the 1930s, the happiness of the Jewish family came to an end with the Nazi rule. Theodore was the only one of his family to survive the Dachau concentration camp . With the help of Albert Einstein, he fled to the USA, where he earned his living as a caretaker at Stanford University and soon married. After seven years of poverty, he was abandoned by his wife, who took their son with her.

Theodore first appeared in front of an audience in the late 1940s, and by the 1950s he was already a well-known stage comedian. Appearances in short films and TV series followed. In his latest film, "The 'Burbs" ( burbs ), he played alongside Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher .
