history

The name indicates the geographical location: "Bruchhäuser" were a few houses in the Middle Ages that were in the Bruch , ie in the swamp area. The swamps are drained today. Nevertheless, the Bruchhausen residents are still known as " Froschbacher " in the neighboring communities . Since 2002 a large stone frog has graced the roundabout at the northern entrance to the town.

Bruchhausen was a small, mainly agricultural village until the 1950s. On October 1, 1974, Bruchhausen was incorporated into the city of Ettlingen. Today it has developed into a kind of suburb of Karlsruhe thanks to numerous building areas and good connections to public transport . A small business park on site provides some jobs.

Oddities

In 1952, "800 years of Bruchhausen" was celebrated with a large ceremony, as Bruchhausen's oldest documented mention at that time was from 1152. Shortly before the turn of the millennium, a documentary mention of 1102 was discovered just in time (the "Villa Luitfridswilri" is mentioned), so that in 2002 "900 years of Bruchhausen" could be celebrated. This means that there are citizens in Bruchhausen who have witnessed both the 800 and 900 year celebrations of their place.
