Brunfelsia portoricensis is a species from the Brunfelsia section of the genus Brunfelsia . The plants are endemic to Puerto Rico .
description
Brunfelsia portoricensis is a hairless shrub with a height of 1 to 3 m. The relatively strong branches are densely covered with leaves . The leaves are leathery, narrowly elongated to inverted lanceolate or egg-shaped. They become 7 to 15 cm long and 1 to 5 cm wide. They are pointed or tapered towards the front and narrowed at the base to blunt at the base. The veins are directed upwards, the central rib is indented on the upper side. The top is glossy green, the bottom is matt light green. The leaf stalks are strong, 3 to 6 mm long.
The flowers are in umbels or individually, terminally or in the armpits. The flower stalks are less than 1.5 mm long. The calyx is tubular-cylindrical and 3 to 4.5 cm long. It is irregular and split into two pointed tips almost to the middle. The white crown has a very strong, fine, downy, hairy corolla tube with a length of 6 to 9 cm. The coronet has a diameter of 6.5 cm or more and is covered with rounded, protruding tips. The four stamens are in two pairs.
The fruits are yellow, almost spherical and measure just under 3 cm in diameter. The seeds are elliptical, brown and about 5 mm in size.
Occurrence
Brunfelsia portoricensis is endemic to Puerto Rico . There the species grows in the eastern mountains in forests of medium and higher altitudes at an altitude of 500 to 600 m.
