Brunnhaus Seebichl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brunnhaus Seebichl is next to the Brunnhaus Fager one of two well-preserved wells in Bad Reichenhall of the brine pipeline to Traunstein . Two other wells - Nagling and Grub - are located in Weißbach on the Alpenstrasse .

The Brunnhaus is a listed building and is registered in the Bavarian Monument List under the number D-1-72-114-187 .

history

When another abundant brine source was discovered during repair work in the salt works in Bad Reichenhall , they did not want to leave it unused. However, since a lot of wood was needed as fuel to produce salt by boiling, it was not possible to provide unlimited amounts of wood in the city. The forests around the city had already been cleared and the firewood procured from the Bavarian Saalforste by means of a wood drift across the Saalach was no longer sufficient for this amount of brine. It was therefore decided to transport the water via a wooden pipe to a branch saline in Traunstein in order to process it into salt. There was enough wood in the upper reaches of the Traun that was still in the possession of the Bavarian dukes. Between 1617 and 1619 Hanns Reiffenstuel and his son Simon set up the brine pipeline to Traunstein. With a piston pressure pump specially developed by Simon Reiffenstuel for this purpose , the brine was able to overcome a height difference of 340 meters in total and then - using the natural gradient - flowed to the next well or to the destination, the Saline in Traunstein.
