Bruno Becker (lawyer)

Ernst Bruno Becker (born March 16, 1877 in Prießnitz ; † after 1945) was a German lawyer who was the President of the Higher Regional Court in Jena .

Life

He came from a farming family and was the son of Ronald Becker and his wife Emma nee Schrecker. After attending grammar school in Naumburg (Saale) , Bruno Becker studied law and political science at the universities of Munich, Berlin and Jena. In June 1899 he passed the legal traineeship examination in Jena and began his legal preparatory service in Hildburghausen , interrupted by a year’s military service as a volunteer . Later he moved to Saalfeld (Saale) and finally to Meiningen . In 1904 he passed the assessor examination in Jena.

From January 1906 to September 1908 Bruno Becker worked at the Saalfeld (Saale) district court, then moved to the Meiningen district court. From March 1910 to September 1919, Bruno Becker was a senior judge in Jena. During this time he took part in the First World War, most recently as a captain. In May 1924 he was appointed President of the District Court in Rudolstadt . From June 1924 to November 1925 he moved to Weimar as President of the Regional Court . This was followed by his appointment as President of the Jena Higher Regional Court. There he remained in office until 1945. In 1944, Becker described the relationship between the justice system in Thuringia and the security service to the Reich Minister of Justice as exemplary. In May 1945 he conducted negotiations with a representative of the American occupation forces to resume judicial jurisdiction in Thuringia. A little later, Becker was arrested. His further life is unknown.

From 1919 until its dissolution in 1933, Bruno Becker belonged to the DNVP . In 1934 he became a supporting member of the SS. His application for membership in the NSDAP was rejected in 1936 by the local branch and the Jena Party Court. He was also a member of the German Academy in Munich .
