Bruno Borchardt (born November 17, 1859 in Bromberg ; † August 14, 1939 in Falkensee ) was a German politician and writer.

He came from a German-Jewish merchant family. After completing his school education, he studied mathematics and physics in Berlin. In 1895 he received his doctorate and then worked as a high school teacher in Spandau near Berlin . In 1886 Borchardt was baptized as a Protestant. From 1900 he worked as a freelance journalist for books and articles in the field of physics and was mainly active as a politician.

He joined the SPD early on and from around 1890 worked as a teacher in workers' education associations. From 1901 he worked as a city councilor for the city of Charlottenburg, which was independent until 1920 . From 1912 he was a member of the Brandenburg Provincial Parliament , of which he was elected President in 1919. From 1921 to 1926 he was a member of the Prussian State Council (the second chamber of the Prussian parliament) for Berlin.

As a prominent opponent of National Socialism , he was persecuted and severely mistreated after the " seizure of power " in 1933. He experienced the November pogrom of 1938 in his home town of Falkensee , where the SA attacked him. He was injured so badly that he died as a result.

In front of his former home at Schönwalder Strasse 35 in Falkensee, a stumbling block was set in his way on July 20, 2007 in memory of him . Likewise, on November 18, 2008, a stumbling block was laid in front of the last Berlin residence at Lenther Steig 19 in Siemensstadt .

His daughter was the actress and acting teacher Marie Borchardt (1890–1969).
