Marie Borchardt (born October 24, 1890 in Berlin ; † February 28, 1969 ) was a German actress and acting teacher. After the Second World War she headed the Marie-Borchardt-Studio drama school named after her .

Life

Marie Borchardt was born in Berlin in 1890 as the daughter of the socialist Bruno Borchardt . At the age of 16 she was already working at the theater in her hometown. Then Borchardt worked on the stages of the city of Hamburg as an actress. From 1916 to 1919 she was a member of the SPD , after which she joined the KPD . In Hamburg she was also active in a trade union and was the first female district chairman to head the district association of Northwest Germany of the German Theater Members' Association . In 1922 she was excluded from the association because of her communist sentiments. With Arnold Czempin she then founded the Protection Association of Stage Members , which she headed as chairwoman.

After the Nazis came to power, her father faced massive reprisals and was finally so badly mistreated in 1938 that he died as a result. After repeated denunciations, Marie Borchardt also lived illegally until the end of the war. She then moved back to Berlin, where she worked as a dramaturge and reciter for the Wilmersdorf public education office from 1945.

In the same year she founded the Marie-Borchardt-Studio , in which she trained actors such as Horst Jonischkan , Ellinor Vogel , Wolfgang Welsch , Gerhard Wollner and Marianne Wünscher . In 1947 she joined the SED . When she moved to East Berlin , she closed the studio in January 1953. In the GDR, she worked in the Berlin district association of the art union as a board member and secretary, and continued to work as an acting teacher.

On the occasion of her 70th birthday, she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze in 1960 .
