Bruno Krüger (prehistoric)

Bruno Krüger (born April 19, 1926 in Fabianowo , now part of Posen ) is a German prehistoric scientist .

After primary school, Bruno Krüger did an apprenticeship as a banker , which he completed in 1943. He then took part in the Second World War as a soldier and was a Soviet prisoner of war until 1948. After his release, he trained as a new teacher and practiced the profession until 1951. In 1952 he joined the SED and began studying history as well as prehistory and early history at the Humboldt University of Berlin (HUB). In 1956 Krüger passed the diploma examination, was then an intern until 1957 as part of a measure to promote young scientists at the German Academy of Sciences and finally became a research assistant at the Institute for Prehistory at the Academy. In February 1960 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the subject of archeology's contribution to the age determination and interpretation of the nature of the Kietz settlements in northern Central Europe at the HUB, reviewers were Wilhelm Unverzagt , Karl-Heinz Otto and Paul Grimm . In 1968 Krüger became a lecturer for prehistory and early history at the HUB and since 1969 has been head of the Germanic research department at the Academy's Central Institute for History . The PhD B took place in 1971 with a thesis on the topic “The Zoberberg in Dessau-Mosigkau . An early Slavic settlement in the central Elbe region ” . The work was published in 1967. In September 1975 he became a professor at the German Academy of Sciences and editor of the journal for archeology , from 1977 to 1989 he headed the prehistory and early history department at the Central Institute for Ancient History and Archeology at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR .

Krüger was involved in many large-scale projects at the academy, the editing of the two-volume work "Die Germanen" was of particular importance . In April 1982 he was awarded the Order of the Banner of Labor Stage III.
