Bruno Skibbe (agricultural scientist)

Bruno Ernst Skibbe (born November 5, 1893 in Skomatzko , East Prussia , † August 14, 1964 in Wiesloch ) was a German agricultural scientist .

Life

Bruno Skibbe grew up in Marggrabowa in East Prussia and attended high school in Königsberg from 1910 . From 1913 to 1918 he studied there and in Tübingen and received his doctorate. rer. pole. After first activities in communal service and at the Chamber of Commerce in Allenstein , he joined the German Land Management Service in Berlin in 1936 , where he worked until the end of the war.

In 1946 he became a manager in the Association of Mutual Farmers Aid and was involved in the implementation of the land reform in the Soviet Zone as an employee of Edwin Hoernle and Kurt Vieweg .

In 1949 Bruno Skibbe became a professor of agricultural science at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the University of Leipzig . After resigning from teaching in Leipzig in 1951, he remained professor in Berlin and founded the Institute for Agricultural Research there .

In addition to his main research focus on agricultural research in the People's Republic of China and Bulgaria , he wrote texts on agricultural history and agricultural economics .

Although Skibbe had been a member of the SED since 1950 , he kept his distance from the politics of the GDR . In 1958 he applied for his retirement after a smear campaign against his scientific work increased the political pressure on him.

In 1960 Skibbe moved with his wife to Wiesloch , where he died in 1964.
