Bruno Tetzner (born February 6, 1922 in Remscheid ; † July 25, 2008 in Wermelskirchen ) was a German church musician , music teacher and cultural politician . He was instrumental in founding the Association of German Music Schools , the Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Young People , the German Cultural Council and the Remscheid Academy , of which he was director for many years. In 1985 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class , because of his decisive contribution to the expansion of the artist's professional profile in the educational and social field .

Life and work

Tetzner's life has been shaped by music and his musical engagement in the Protestant youth since his childhood , however, due to the war, he was unable to study art, so instead he completed an apprenticeship as an export merchant . After returning from a war mission and subsequent imprisonment, he began a civil service career with the city of Remscheid , where he was most recently deputy head of the cultural office. The founding of the Remscheid Music School in 1953 with Karl Lorenz as the founding director as one of the first music schools in Germany can be traced back to his involvement in the city, as well as the establishment of the Remscheid Academy for Cultural Education (initially as a musical educational institution in Remscheid ) in Remscheid-Küppelstein im 1958 with Wilhelm Twittenhoff as founding director, whose management he later took over until his retirement. He not only succeeded Twittenhoff as director of the academy, but also followed him in 1965 at the Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Young People , of which he remained chairman until 2000.

He was one of the most energetic and prominent personalities in music and cultural politics in the second half of the 20th century and was instrumental in founding numerous federal associations. In addition to his commitment to the Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Young People , he was a founding member of the Association of German Music Schools , the German Music Council and the German Culture Council . The founding of the state association for cultural youth education in North Rhine-Westphalia goes back to him, which was followed by many similar foundations in other federal states. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , he was heavily involved in building appropriate structures in the new federal states .

Musically, he campaigned for the promotion of jazz in Germany and received honorary citizenship of the city of New Orleans . He was also a trained church musician , played the organ for the Evangelical Johannes-Kirchengemeinde as early as 1938 and directed his choir there until old age. His grave is in the Remscheid-Reinshagen forest cemetery .
