Bryon Demetrise Russell (born December 31, 1970 in San Bernardino , California ) is a retired American basketball player . Russell played in the NBA between 1993 and 2006 .

NBA

In the 1993 NBA draft , he was committed in the second draft round of the Utah Jazz . Russell played a total of 9 years, alongside Karl Malone and John Stockton , for the jazz and reached the 1997 and 1998 NBA finals with them. As a starting small forward, Russel was given the task of defending Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan . The Jazz failed both times because of the Bulls. In Game 6 of the 1998 Jazz-Bulls Final, Russell became the tragic figure of the game when he failed to fend off Jordan's game-winning throw. The scene of Jordan's last throw over Russell, before his preliminary retirement, went around the world. In the 1999–2000 season, Russell had its statistically best time when he scored 14.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Russell left Utah in 2002 and joined the Washington Wizards . At the Wizards, he played a season alongside Michael Jordan, who had returned to the NBA. The 2003-04 season Russell played again at the side of Karl Malone for the Los Angeles Lakers . The Lakers reached the NBA final but lost it to the Detroit Pistons . Russell spent the last two years with the Denver Nuggets before ending his career with lower-class basketball teams in the ABA and IBL . In 2009 Russell ended his professional career.

His jersey was withdrawn by Long Beach State in 2010 .
