The Bsatzig in Schanfigg was a traditional event of the Schanfigg district in the form of a rural community to appoint ("Bsatzig" in the dialect of the Walser = "occupation") the political and judicial offices.

Place, tasks and process

The Bsatzig took place since 1851 only two, then three and finally four years (corresponding to the extension of the legislative periods of the Grand Council) on a Sunday in St. Peter on the meadow next to the Reformed village church .

Your main tasks were the election of the district president (the Landammann), who held office with the administration in Arosa , his deputy (the governor), the members of the right-wing valley of the Schanfigg in the Great Council in Chur as well as the district court and the mediator.

The Schanfigger Landsgemeinde gathered after a procession, which was preceded by the officials with women and standard- bearers. The opening speech was given as a basic sermon by the Reformed local clergyman . This was followed by debates on the items to be negotiated and then the elections.

The Bsatzig Sunday always had folk festival-like features and ended with music and dance by the valley youth.

The End

Particularly with the reorganization of the regions in the canton of Graubünden since the turn of the millennium and the repeal of the district court (new court organization law of 2001), the importance of Bsatzig continued to decline. In 2009 the district decided not to continue Bsatzig within the traditional framework.

Bsatzigspüntel

As Board traditionally served the Schanfigger Bsatzigspüntel, various syrups especially from elder flowers and peppermint , jams , Grisons dried meat , Salsiz , herbal teas , alpine cheese, honey, pear bread , liquor contained and different pastries. Even after the Bsatzig was given up, the Bsatzigpüntel could still be purchased for a few years. At the beginning of May 2014 it became known that it would no longer be sold due to a lack of demand.
