Administrative division

The Schanfigg district consisted of two (originally ten, as of 2008 nine) independent political communities with a total of just under 3,800 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2015):

In terms of area, the two communities are largely on the right side of the Schanfigg valley. The two left-hand valley communities Praden and Tschiertschen (since January 1, 2009 merged to form Tschiertschen-Praden ) belonged to the Churwalden district.

The main place of the district was the municipality of St. Peter-Pagig , located in the middle of the valley , where the Bsatzig , the (historical) rural community for holding the district elections, took place once every two, then every three and finally every four years until 2009 . The district administration - especially the debt enforcement office and the guardianship authority - as well as the district office as the official seat of the district president ( Landammann ) were most recently in Arosa. The last responsible official was Jann Hatz ( BDP / Arosa).

history

Historically, the district of Schanfigg, like all other districts in Graubünden, was created in 1851 as part of the complete reorganization of the canton in political, administrative and judicial terms. It was made up of the former courts of St. Peter and Langwies (excluding Praden) - the high court of Schanfigg - and the newly created community of Arosa, which as a neighborhood had been part of the Davos landscape until then .

The dissolution of the Schanfigg district was clear since the vote on the cantonal territorial reform on September 23, 2012. As of January 1, 2016, in addition to the districts and regional associations, the Graubünden districts were functionally replaced by 11 new regions. Although the districts were formally abolished, they de facto retain the function of dividing areas for the Grand Council elections.
