The Buchbrunnenquelle or the Buchbrunnen (also incorrectly called Egau-Ursprung ) is a strong karst spring near Dischingen in Härtsfeld on the Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg .
location
The Buchbrunnen spring is located between Dischingen and Ballmertshofen near the course of the Egau . It was captured in 1957 and a treatment plant for drinking water , the Egau waterworks, was built. In the cathedral, which is accessible, you can see the deep crevices from which it is fed when you look into the spring.
Data
The karst spring pours between 623 and 1,470 liters of water per second, an average of 927 l / s, but the pipes of the waterworks can only absorb a maximum of 800 l / s. The drinking water is fed to the greater Stuttgart area via the state water supply (19% spring water from the Buchbrunnen spring) . The so-called spring lake is located on the Egau, into which the portion of the spring water that is not used for the drinking water supply flows into.
geology
By contrast water testing , it was found that the Buchbrunnen source an almost identical catchment area as the further north springing Gallen Miter source has. Both are combined to form the Buchbrunnen source system. Mineral cloudiness only occurs in the spring water of the Buchbrunnen after long periods of heavy precipitation and during the snowmelt . The source is the outlet of an underground river in the Karst of the Swabian Alb, which ran into the Egau before the construction of the waterworks . The source outlet was covered with a dome in an innovative and complex process with diving bells without any blasting or erosion that could have diverted the karst river underground. This source version was unique in Europe at the time.
history
Until 1954, the Buchmühle stood on the bank of a 2,200 m² spring pot that looked like a small lake. In 1929, the old building and the spring pot became the property of the state water supply. The grinding aisles had stood still for almost 100 years, only the mill wheel kept turning and pumping drinking water for Schloss Taxis , which is on the opposite side of the Egau valley. From 1954 to 1957 the Egau waterworks of the state water supply was built.
fauna
Beavers settled on the site of the waterworks around 1990 . Their population includes around ten animals.
In 1992, cave crabs were discovered in the Buchbrunnen spring . Since crabs are only found in cool and clean waters, they are an indication of the excellent quality of the spring water.
