Buck Rinehart

Dana Gillman "Buck" Rinehart (* 24. February 1946 in Parkersburg , West Virginia ; † 18th February 2015 in Columbus , Ohio ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . He was the 50th mayor of Columbus from January 1, 1984 to January 1, 1992.

Life

Buck Rinehart was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and after finishing school he became a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve , where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel . After retiring from the Navy, Rinehart studied political science at Ohio State University . He later studied at Ohio State University law , this study concluded he cum laude as a Juris Doctor from. From 1976 to 1984 Rinehart was treasurer in the administration of Franklin County . 1982 Rinehart ran unsuccessfully in the gubernatorial elections in Ohio. The following year he announced his candidacy for mayoral election in Columbus. Rinehart won the election narrowly, replacing Tom Moody on January 1, 1984 . In 1987 Rinehart was confirmed in office. Rinehart's tenure included the establishment of the Franklin County Solid Waste Authority and the completion of Interstate 670 , an important route through Columbus today. In 1992, Rinehart was replaced as mayor by his party colleague Greg Lashutka .

After retiring from politics, Rinehart worked as a lawyer in the law firm Rinehart, Rishel & Cuckler, Ltd and was active as a lobbyist . Buck Rinehart died of pancreatic cancer shortly before his 69th birthday .
