Buduma (alternative spelling: Boudouma ; also: Yedina ) is a Chadian language spoken by the Buduma people of the same name on Lake Chad in West Africa .

The language is common in the four countries bordering Lake Chad. According to the 1993 census, 51,600 Buduma speakers live in the Lac region in Chad . In the state of Borno in Nigeria are about 3,000 people in the region and Extrême-Nord in Cameroon about 200 people budumasprachig. In Niger, where the language area is in the Diffa region , Buduma has the status of a national language . A northern, a southern and a central dialect can be distinguished. The central dialect combines peculiarities of the northern and southern dialect. While all three dialects are used in Chad, the northern dialect is common in Niger, the central dialect in Nigeria, and the southern dialect in Cameroon. Buduma vocabulary and syntax are heavily influenced by Kanuri . 60% of Buduma speakers also use Kanembu , around half also use Central Kanuri . Some also use Chadian Arabic .
