The Pukhan'gang or Bukhangang ("Northern Han River") is a source river of the Hangang , which flows through North Korea and South Korea .

It crosses the North Korean province of Kangwon , as well as the South Korean provinces of Gangwon-do and Gyeonggi-do .

The source of the Pukhan'gang is in North Korea near the Kŭmgangsan . This section of the river is also called Kŭmgangchŏn or "Kŭmgang". It crosses the Demilitarized Zone , reaches Hwacheon County , flows south through Chuncheon and then west through Gapyeong . It unites with the Namhangang in Yangseo-myeon , Yangpyeong , to form the Hangang .

The entire catchment area of the river is 11,343 km², of which 7788 km² is in South Korea.
