The Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium and Bundeshandelsschule Jennersdorf ( Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium - und Bundeshandelsschule ) is an Austrian general high school and a vocational middle school based in Jennersdorf in Burgenland . The grammar school consists of four branches: computer science , natural sciences , sports and languages .

history

As early as 1963, the Burgenland state government was concerned with the establishment of a secondary school in Jennersdorf and was very positive about such a project. Since the then Federal Minister for Education, Theodor Piffl-Perčević , was of the opinion that a higher school should be built in every district suburb , the time for a positive settlement of this application was definitely good. On September 10, 1966, the Jennersdorf secondary school was officially opened in a festive ceremony.

The newly founded federal high school Jennersdorf was run as a branch of the federal high school Oberschützen . On January 1, 1973, the Jennersdorf Federal Secondary School was officially recognized as an independent school by the Federal Ministry. With a resolution of June 18, 1973, Federal President Franz Jonas appointed Friedrich Karl as the first director.

In June 1973 an application was made to found a vocational school. In 1974, the Jennersdorf Federal Commercial School was finally inaugurated.

From 1976 lessons were held in a newly built school building, as the old one was already in great need of renovation and there was a lack of special classrooms. Finally, in December 1985, the building's own gymnasium was reopened, and on September 22, 1989, its own outdoor sports facility.

For a long time, especially at the school, there was a cat who lived in the school and became an important part of the community. The school cat Felix ran up in 2000 and became an integral part. Felix died in August 2016.

Karl Brunner was the director of the school from 1995 until his retirement in 2012. Peter Pommer took over the management provisionally in 2012 before he was officially appointed director in 2014.

The BORG / BHAS Jennersdorf also supports a school sponsored child in Ethiopia . In 2014 and 2016 Peter Pommer again traveled to Africa with two teachers and a few students to visit the sponsored child.

School types

high school

  • Computer science

While all students in the BORG acquire basic skills in the various programs in the 5th grade, from the 6th grade onwards, the focus is on computer science. This is where the two areas of multimedia and PC & network technology come together.

  • Natural sciences

Since 2006, interested young people have been deepening their basic knowledge from compulsory natural science subjects by attending the NaWi focus for 10 hours per week from year 6 to 8. Cooperation with external partners is of great importance. For example with the Institute for Medical Microbiology and Hygiene Graz, the Burgenland Nature Conservation Union, and the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences .

  • Sports

In the 1992/93 school year, the sports training focus was introduced at the BORG Jennersdorf. In seven to nine sports hours per week, the students are taught as varied as possible in the main subjects football, volleyball and tennis, as well as apparatus gymnastics, strength and coordination training, athletics, basketball, badminton, swimming and winter sports.

  • languages

In addition to English as a compulsory first and optionally Latin or French as a second foreign language, the BORG Jennersdorf offers schoolchildren who attend the language branch, Spanish as a third foreign language in the 6th grade , which can be chosen as an oral Matura subject.

Commercial school

In order to optimally prepare the students for starting their careers and find out which occupation suits them, the new curriculum of the commercial school provides for an in-company internship of 150 hours during the course.

The new 2014 curriculum also provides for the introduction of the modular upper level and the formation of clusters, which network existing subjects. These newly created subject groups (clusters) are grouped into four different areas of responsibility:

  • Language skills (German, English)
  • Social skills and personality development (religion / ethics, PBSK, sport)
  • Business competence (business administration + RW, use of IT, customer-oriented action)
  • Society and the environment (consolidation of democratic and environmental awareness)

The school's own iPads have been used in lessons since the 2014/15 school year .

In the 2017/18 school year, for the first time in the history of the school, there is no 1st class of the commercial school.
