Bernhard Hirczy (born September 20, 1982 in Güssing ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). He is a master carpenter and was a member of the Burgenland State Parliament from 2015 to February 2020 and mayor of Jennersdorf from January to October 2017 . He has been a delegated member of the Austrian Federal Council from Burgenland since February 17, 2020 .

Life

Bernhard Hirczy attended elementary and secondary school as well as the commercial school in Jennersdorf. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter , Bernhard Hirczy worked in his parents' company. In 2005 he passed the master's examination. Bernhard Hirczy lives with his partner Vera and his daughter in Jennersdorf.

From 2012, Hirczy was Vice Mayor of Jennersdorf . He also exercises the function of district party chairman of the ÖVP in the Jennersdorf district . On July 5th, 2014 he was elected regional chairman of the ÖAAB in Burgenland and succeeded Oswald Klikovits in this function . In November 2016, Jennersdorf's mayor Wilhelm Thomas announced that he would resign and that the office would be transferred to Hirczy in January 2017. On January 1, 2017, he officially became the managing mayor of Jennersdorf. At the municipal council meeting on January 12, 2017, Bernhard Hirczy was elected the new mayor of the Jennersdorf municipality with 23 of 23 votes from all parliamentary groups (ÖVP, SPÖ, Greens and FPÖ).

In the 2017 municipal council elections , the ÖVP in Jennersdorf lost its absolute majority and only achieved 36.68%. Hirczy achieved 41.38% in the mayoral election, so that on October 29th he ran against the candidate of the Jennersdorfer citizen list JES, Reinhard Deutsch. However, he was defeated in the runoff election with 46.67%. Bernhard Hirczy is currently active as a city councilor in Jennersdorf.

Bernhard Hirczy was the spokesman for commuters, infrastructure and employees in the state parliament. After the state elections in 2020 , he left the state parliament and moved to the Federal Council for the ÖVP in place of Marianne Hackl .

Bernhard Hirczy takes on the role of spokesperson for national defense and apprentices. Hirczy also names strengthening the regions, particularly in Burgenland, as a focus of his work as Federal Councilor. In particular, the topic of infrastructure in southern Burgenland is to be promoted.
