The constituency of Rendsburg - Neumünster had constituency number 5. It was formed for the 1965 federal election from parts of the former constituencies of Segeberg - Neumünster and Rendsburg . The area of ​​the constituency remained unchanged for the federal elections from 1965 to 1972.

Before the 1976 federal election, the constituency was split up. The area of ​​the city of Neumünster went to the newly formed constituency Plön - Neumünster and the southern part of the district Rendsburg-Eckernförde to the new constituency Rendsburg-Eckernförde .
