The constituency of Rendsburg-Eckernförde was newly formed for the 1976 federal election. Until the federal election in 1998 it consisted of the area of ​​the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district, which was previously divided between the Schleswig-Eckernförde and Rendsburg-Neumünster constituencies. For the 2002 federal election, the municipalities of Altenholz and Kronshagen were transferred to the constituency of Kiel .
