Otto Bernhardt (born February 13, 1942 in Rendsburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2005 to 2009 he was chairman of the finance working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and from 1979 to 1984 he was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education .

Life and work

After high school in 1962 graduated Bernhardt initially an apprenticeship as a banker and then began in 1964 to study economics at the University of Hamburg , which he in 1968 as a graduate - Handelslehrer and after the clerkship in 1970 with the second state exam ended for the higher teaching.

In 1985 Bernhardt joined the board of directors of the Wirtschaftsbauskasse Schleswig-Holstein AG and, after its merger with the housing loan company, was part of the management of the newly founded Schleswig-Holstein Investment Bank . In 1991 he moved to Landkreditbank Schleswig-Holstein as spokesman and member of the board, and in 1994 he became a board member of Bank Companie Nord AG . Bernhardt has been working as an independent management consultant since 1995 . After leaving the Bundestag in 2009, Bernhardt expanded his professional activity to include advice on lobbying activities.

Otto Bernhardt is married and has two children.

Political party

Bernhardt, who had already become a member of the Junge Union as a schoolboy in 1958 , joined the CDU in 1960. From 1970 to 2006 he was a member of the state board of the CDU in Schleswig-Holstein and was also chairman of the CDU district association Rendsburg-Eckernförde from 1980 to 2004 .

From 1970 to 1998 Bernhardt was a member of the council assembly of his hometown Rendsburg and from 1971 until his resignation on January 9, 1985 he was also a member of the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein .

From 1998 to 2009 Bernhardt was a member of the German Bundestag . Since November 29, 2005 he has been chairman of the finance working group and thus also the financial policy spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

He entered the Bundestag in 1998 and 2002 via the Schleswig-Holstein state list and in 2005 as a directly elected member of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde constituency with 44.1% of the first votes .

Public offices

On May 22, 1973, Bernhardt was appointed parliamentary representative in the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education . On May 26, 1979, he was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture in the state government led by Prime Minister Gerhard Stoltenberg . He initially retained this office under his successor Uwe Barschel , but then left the office on July 31, 1984.

Volunteering

Bernhardt has been chairman of the Hermann Ehlers Foundation since 1993 and a member of the board of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation since 2001 .

Bernhardt has been chairman of the German Solidarity Committee for a Free Iran (DSFI) since 2011 .

Otto Bernhardt has been CEO of the emergency aid and development organization Mission East Germany since 2013 .

Honors

Otto Bernhardt is the holder of the Freiherr vom Stein Medal and was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1978 and the Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1984 .
