The main facilities of the "Vostok" news center of the GDR Ministry for National Defense were installed in the bunker . In the "integrated staff network of the party and state leadership of the GDR and the armed organs", commonly referred to as special network 1 or integrated staff network of the NVA , there was close cooperation with the main switching center 2 of this network in the bunker Strausberg (Deutsche Post) .

Intended use

The bunker in Strausberg, a structure with two floors and the basic dimensions of 70 × 30 m, secured all kinds of communication connections for the MfNV, including the Operative Command Center (OFZ), as a node and end switching center. As part of the Warsaw Pact, the news center was declared a prime example. From an operational and strategic point of view, the bunker system in Kagel was operated separately from the main building in Strausberg. He provided all radio transmitters with an output of up to 5 kW required to operate radio links . For this purpose, a total of 40 different antenna systems were available on an area of approx. 40 ha, including the underground terrestrial antennas.

The main news center was an intelligence unit that was directly subordinate to the MfNV. The bunker corresponded to protection class "E", had a floor area without the ancillary facilities of 70 × 30 meters and two floors. The operational command center of the MfNV was connected to the news bunker underground via a corridor system.

Voice and data communication connection

The Strausberg bunker assumed a dominant position as a communications center in the NVA's communications system. It not only represents the center of the system as a terminal exchange for the ministry, but also functioned as a node exchange in the NVA's messaging system. In this capacity, he operated a large number of direct communication links to other message (NZ), auxiliary (HNZ) and support message centers (StNZ) at the central management level, the armed forces of the NVA, commandos of the armed forces and military districts with their well-prepared command posts. Only a few are listed here:

further connections existed via the HNZ of the central management level in the north and south of the republic z. B. to (for):

  • Ministry of the Interior of the GDR, border crossing points, transmission points of the Deutsche Post etc.
