action

The writer Mr. McRain wanted to stay in a log cabin in Finland so that he could work on his book in peace. However, he is kidnapped and injected by a mad scientist with a serum that turns him into a horny rabbit person with a gigantic penis. After overpowering his tormentors, he flees into the Finnish night.

The friends Mise and Jari are planning a gigantic party weekend with their two friends Sara and Nina. The designer Emma, who always wears an FFP2 mask with a valve and has designed a clothing line with a printed vagina for men, and her friend Tuomas are also coming . Jari's younger brother Jesse, who had an eye on Nina, snuck into the specially borrowed ambulance. On the way, they also meet the three somewhat strange-looking Tim, Vincent and Lucas who have broken down their car. Since Sara has her eye on Vincent, they tow the car.

The party begins and lots of alcohol is destroyed. Tim and Mise decide to fix the car. When everyone is drunk, events roll over. Sara and Vincent spend a nice night together until Sara is so drunk that Vincent accompanies her to bed, but leaves her there nicely. Instead, Sara is raped by her best friend Nina, which Jaris notices. Then the Killerbunny also appears and kills and rapes itself through the entire group and another party party that is celebrating in the area. Only a few survive, including Jesse, who has to experience how Nina tries to save her skin when she throws Sara in front of the killer bunny. Sara can tear herself away, however. Nina cannot escape the bunny, who kills her and then rapes her.

In the end, only Tim and Mise manage to get the car running again. They take Sara with them on their escape. However, Mise and Sara find out that there is singer Lara Jessica Svensson in the trunk of Tim, Vincent and Lucas' car. The three men kidnapped her and should take her to the mad scientist. The killer bunny finds the four and can kill Lara. Then the three remaining heroes tear off his penis and Sara then beats him apparently dead with it.

The mad scientist captures the trio. Since Lara is killed by the killer bunny, he tries to pass Sara off as her employer, a gang of rapists turn up. However, the group manages to break free. They face the rapists and kill them. Then they leave the scene. At the end the killer bunny can be seen, which now has a gaping hole instead of a penis.

After the credits, Jesse has an amorous adventure with an old hermit and his beautiful daughter.

background

Joonas Makkonen made the 18-minute short film Bunny the Killer Thing in 2011 . In 2015 he transformed the script for this short film into a feature film. To this end, he worked out ideas from the original, such as Emma's underpants clothing line. When shooting, he also resorted to actors from the short film.

What is striking about the film is its explicit depiction of violence and some taboo-breaking scenes, such as the rape of a dead person. In its actually rather comical design and its abstruse story, it is somewhat reminiscent of the cult works Bad Taste and Braindead by Peter Jackson , which Makkonen also served as inspiration.

The film was shown at various film festivals in 2015. He won several film awards, including "Best Exploitation" at the Arizona Underground Film Festival and the "Madness Award Best Film" at the Nocturna Madrid International Fantastic Film Festival . The two actors Orwi Manny Ameh and Jari Manninen were voted best actor at the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre . The film was released in Finland on November 6, 2015 and was shown in various cinemas there before it was finally released on DVD.

In Germany it had its premiere at the Cinestrange Film Festival . A version cut by four minutes on DVD and Blu-Ray followed on December 1, 2016. In 2020 an uncut version was released in Mediabook with JK approval.

reception

Ash Williams from Horromagazin.de awarded the film three out of five stars. He comes to the following conclusion:

“Otherwise the atmosphere, actors and dialogues go well together. Even if not at the highest level, the film is always entertaining. He has a certain amount of (Finnish) humor and doesn't take himself very seriously, and that's how it should be in this genre. Every now and then there are of course a few lengths. But we like to look the other way. (...) Extraordinary, entertaining and crazy. However, “Bunny and his killer thing” is far removed from trash pearls like “Bad Taste”.
