Burak Karan (also Abu Abdullah al-Turki ; born September 11, 1987 in Wuppertal ; † before October 11, 2013 in A'zāz , Syria ) was a German football player .

Life

Karan was the son of a Turkish family: he was soon noticed as a football talent. He played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen's B-Juniors until June 2003 , for Hertha BSC from July to December 2003 , for Hamburger SV from January 2004 to June 2005 , from July 2005 to December 2007 for Hannover 96 and from January to June 2008 for Alemannia Aachen , also in the U-16 and U-17 junior teams and was about to make the leap into professional football, but ended his career in 2008 for unknown reasons. As a youth player he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture , which set him back in his development. His positions were the defensive midfield and the right back .

From 2010 the public prosecutor's office in Düsseldorf was investigating Karan on suspicion of preparing a serious criminal offense that could endanger the state. In the same year, the Düsseldorf District Court ordered his telephone connections to be monitored.

On October 11, 2013, a video was posted on YouTube that appears to show how Karan was involved in acts of civil war in Syria. Karan is said to have joined Islamists and died in October 2013 in the Syrian civil war . His wife and two small children are said to have been around him. The exact circumstances of the death are unknown.
