Burchard († January 3, 1130 ) was Bishop of Cambrai from 1114/16 to 1130 .

Life

Burchard belonged to the Marienstift in Aachen, was a member of the court orchestra and a confidante of Emperor Heinrich V. He was elected Bishop of Cambrai in 1114 on the proposal of the Emperor. Due to the investiture dispute , the Archbishop of Reims refused the ordination, only after Burchard had traveled twice to Rome, the Pope recognized the election and Burchard was ordained bishop on July 4, 1116 in Reims. He was friends with Norbert von Xanten and favored the Premonstratensians in his diocese . He was involved in the foundations of hospitals in Cambrai and Brussels. Burchard is found several times in the imperial entourage in 1119 in Antwerp and in 1122 and 1128 in Aachen. In 1123 he achieved the return of the areas of his diocese that had been lost to the diocese of Arras at the Lateran Council . With the Counts of Flanders he was involved in a long-standing conflict over the Burgraviate of Cambrai.
