The castle Gladbach is in Gladbach , in the municipality of Vettweiß in Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia , right on Neffelbach .

The family of those von Gladbach is mentioned as early as 1102. This family is related to the Counts of Jülich and took the castle and rule from them as a fief . Through various inheritances she came to Maria von Kronenburg in 1373. After further changes of ownership, the water castle and rule came to the von Palant family . The sex died out in Gladbach in 1725 in the male line . Franz Kaspar von Hillesheim became the successor.

In 1688 there was a major fire at the castle. In 1715 the construction of the main castle began on the medieval foundations. The new baroque building was a four-wing complex that enclosed an elongated courtyard. With the construction of the outer bailey Franz Kaspar began Hillesheim 1741. The bailey is four wings with a gatehouse at the south side.

The rule was withdrawn after the death of those von Hillesheim in 1786. In 1806 the castle was sold again. The families von Coudenhove and Heider were owners one after the other. Francois de Larchet de Chamont, the French city commander of Jülich at the time , became lord of the castle around 1813. In 1823 he converted the main castle into a three-wing complex and put semicircular closures in front of the side wings. After his death, the daughter inherited the property. She sold it to Joseph Rey. Then Heinrich Bollig, Karl Bessenich and 1930 Karl Sieger became owners. Ludwig Sieger died here in November 1952 .

Joseph Rey had the courtyard built over in 1860 . In the mid-1970s, the facility was completely renovated.

The last known owner was Friedrich Victor Rolff , who died in 2012 and previously owned lignite mines and a briquette factory near Zülpich . He brought the castle into the Friedrich Victor Rolff Foundation he founded.
