The Muszyna Castle ( Polish: Zamek w Muszynie ) is located in Muszyna in the powiat Nowosądecki in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . The hilltop castle is located in the Sander Beskids at the confluence of the Poprad , Szczawnik and Muszynka rivers above the old town of Muszyna. It is one of the numerous Poprad and Dunajec castles in the Beskids that guarded the medieval trade routes from the Kingdom of Poland to Hungary .

The castle was built in 1301 as the seat of the Muszyna country , which has belonged to the Kraków bishops since 1288 . Another castle that was located in Muszyna was destroyed by Matthias Corvinus in 1474 . In the 15th century, the castle was initially administered by a Starost and later by a Kasztelan . One of the tasks of the castle was to guard the trade route from Poland to Hungary, which ran along the Poprad. After the dissolution of the country of Muszyna and the takeover of the land as a chamber property by the Habsburgs in 1781 after the First Partition of Poland , the castle fell into ruin.
