List of Dunajec castles
The so-called Dunajec castles (Polish: Zamki nad Dunajcem ) are a series of castles and fortifications that are located in the southern part of Poland , in the West Beskids , on the Dunajec and its tributary Poprad . Most of these castles were built in the 14th and 15th centuries. Some of them were built by the Polish king Casimir the Great , some of them belonged to Polish princes and were destroyed during the Second Northern War . The castles were built to secure the trade route from the Kingdom of Poland , especially its former capital Krakow , to the Kingdom of Hungary , especially its former capital Buda .
