Schrabsdorf Castle is the ruin of a tower hill castle (Motte) from the Middle Ages in the north of Brandenburg . It is located in the district of Teschendorf in the community of Löwenberger Land . The village of Schrabsdorf , which later fell desolate , belonged to the castle .
history
Schrabsdorf Castle was probably built in the 13th century by the Ascanians as a border fortification. The eastern edge of a river ditch north-west of the Dreetzsee was chosen as the location . Immediately to the west of the castle, traffic from the Löwenberg region ran south on a stick embankment . The castle was in a favorable position to control this traffic. The village of Schrabsdorf belonging to the castle was first mentioned in writing in 1270 as "Scrapestorp" in the Löwenberg region. The castle itself or its masters are not mentioned in medieval sources. After 1414 the village fell into desolation , probably because of the great distance to better arable land, and the castle was abandoned. The castles Löwenberg and Bötzow probably took over their function .
description
The castle's plateau is square with a side length of 40 m. By section ditches an island location was created and the higher terrain in the north-east was probably a palisade erected. Schrabsdorf Castle is a low castle and, according to its location and shape, corresponds to a type of tower hill castle (Motte) with a brick tower that is common in the region . Today the castle complex forms a hill surrounded by meadows and arable land at the confluence of the road on the Wacker Mountains with federal road 96 . Their state of preservation is relatively good. The castle plateau is clearly visible in the digital terrain model . Post-medieval alterations or remodeling are not known. Around 1840, however, the remains of the medieval buildings were removed for the construction of the road . Schrabsdorf Castle is registered as a ground monument with the number 70184 in the list of monuments of the state of Brandenburg .
