Seeberg Castle

Seeberg Castle is a castle in the Ostroh district of the Czech municipality of Poustka in Okres Cheb .

The beginnings of the castle go back to the end of the 12th century. The church of St. Wolfgang was the burial place of the castle owners in the 16th and 17th centuries. Numerous epitaphs with depictions of the deceased have been preserved. Wolf Georg von Brandt was forced to give up the castle and sell it due to the re-Catholicization in the Thirty Years' War in 1628. He had another seat with Schlottenhof near Arzberg . In the communist era of Czechoslovakia, the castle and church were left to decay. In the meantime, the castle has been extensively renovated and houses a museum on the history of the castle and its surroundings.

On the gate tower of the inner trench, four coats of arms adorn the entrance area, they are the family coats of arms of von Junker , von Brandt , von Gerard and von Steinheim . The von Junker coat of arms is also attached to the administration building in front of it. On the back of the castle are the coats of arms of those of von Nostiz , von Neuberg and von Seeberg.

The castle is built on a mountain spur. A first enclosure wall encloses an administration building and - as part of the exhibition - two historical barns with household items and tools. The castle moat leads to the castle's multi-storey main buildings, which serve as exhibition rooms. A footbridge over a craggy valley cut leads to the church.
