Týřov Castle (German Angerbach , also Teyrow or Teyrzow ) is a castle ruin in the Czech Republic . It is located in the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area , about three kilometers northeast of the village of Skryje on the Karlova Ves cadastre , and is located on a hill above the confluence of the Berounka and the Úpořský brook. It is a French type fortress, unique in the Czech Republic . Heinrich von Leipa was imprisoned in Týřov Castle from October 1315 to April 1316 because of his conflict with King John of Bohemia .

The castle was founded by Wenceslas I at the beginning of his rule. The fortification guarded a ford on a country road that crossed the Berounka River here. From the beginning it had two names: the Czech name Týřov and the German name Angerbach. The first mention of the complex comes from September 1249, when the king captured his son Přemysl (later King Přemysl Otakar II ) and his followers here.

Johann von Böhmen pledged the castle to Wilhelm Hase von Waldeck . Týřov was one of the first castles that Charles IV regained for the crown after his return to Bohemia. In the Maiestas Carolina , the militarily important facility was classified as conditionally mortgable. During the Hussite Wars it was owned by Aleš Holický von Sternberg , a follower of Emperor Sigismund . Because of its excellent defense system, it was the only castle in the area that was not captured. The flanking defense towers made it possible to shell the area and the foot of the fortification wall and cover each other.

King George of Podebrady pledged the castle to his secretary Jošt z Ensidle . His descendants let Týřov decay. At the beginning of the 16th century the castle was renovated for the last time. In 1575 it was mentioned as abandoned.
