The Burgberg - on older maps also Schlossberg - is 465  m above sea level. NN high mountain in the Wartburg district . It is located in the Thuringian Forest above Bad Liebenstein .

Liebenstein Castle is located on the castle hill . In Bad Liebenstein, the current Hotel Kaiserhof is located on the Burgberg, which arose from the former Fischern'schen Castle - later the Kurhaus (hence probably the other name).

In contrast to its neighbor, the Aschenberg , which consists of red sandstone, and the higher mountains of the western Thuringian Forest, where the Ruhlaer Kristallin with granites and gneisses stands, the Burgberg belongs to the Liebensteiner Zechstein belt . Another special feature, the Farnbach infiltration , makes this stream disappear below Atterode . Connections with the cave brook of the Altensteiner cave , the drink hole (an only temporarily active spring) and the sinkhole water (at the Kaiserhof) have been proven through studies .

The castle hill is completely forested - with a few exceptions there is a pure beech forest . Secondary peaks are the Linsenkopf (464 m - towards Atterode) and the Majorskopf (at the spa park with a viewing pulpit).
