history

Karner

"Purch" was first mentioned in a document in 788, and the place has been called Burgkirchen since 1130. A church was built in place of the castle that gave it its name, and at the time of Duke Arnulf the Evil (907–937) Burgkirchen was already a parish. In 1231 the parish of Burgkirchen was assigned to the Altötting collegiate monastery , from which it was cared for until secularization in Bavaria . In 1810 the separation from Altötting took place, in 1822 she came to the diocese of Passau . The community of Unterburgkirchen was dissolved in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria in October 1971 and incorporated into the Tüßling market.

church

The parish church of St. Rupertus towers over the village of Burgkirchen and is visible from afar in the area. The late Gothic building from the second quarter of the 15th century has a high, protruding west tower. Medieval parts are a portal with Romanesque door fittings and a Romanesque baptismal font in the basement of the tower and a Gothic wall fresco in the choir. The furnishings are baroque. The Way of the Cross dates from 1749. The cemetery is south of the church. The former charnel house from the 15th century is to the north of the church.
