The parish church of St. Rupertus is a Roman Catholic Rupert von Salzburg church in the village of Burgkirchen am Wald in the market town of Tüßling in the Upper Bavarian district of Altötting .

history

The place has been called Burgkirchen since 1130. The church was built on the site of the eponymous castle. At the time of Duke Arnulf the Evil (907–937), Burgkirchen was already a parish. In 1231 the parish of Burgkirchen was assigned to the Altötting collegiate monastery and looked after in Bavaria until secularization . In 1810 the separation from Altötting took place . In 1822 the parish came to the Diocese of Passau .

architecture

The church is elevated, dominating the landscape for a long time. The building following the type of the so-called three-pillar hall was built based on the model of the Spitalkirche in Braunau . The nave was rebuilt before 1450 with tuff blocks between the still-preserved Romanesque tower ground floor in the west and the former Romanesque choir in the east and enlarged in width to an almost square floor plan. The late Gothic choir with a yoke and a five-eighth closure was built around 1480. The year “1484” and a fragmented mural from the middle of the 15th century can be found in the choir. The painting, which is closely linked to the Salzburg painting by Conrad Laib , shows parts of a mount of olives scene as well as a family of donors and a strip of ornaments. The tower above the Romanesque ground floor was built in Gothic forms over six floors and closes with four corner turrets and a pointed helmet. The outer walls of the church are structured by double buttresses .

The choir has a net vault over wall pillars and round services. The nave vault, on the other hand, rests on consoles and three free-standing octagonal pillars. Vaulted umbrellas, which are figured with six-part diamond stars, extend from the wall brackets and the free pillars placed on the gaps. The front of the rib-vaulted west gallery, which is divided into keel arches, is clamped between the two western pillars. The gallery parapet shows Rococo stucco and frescoes.

Furnishing

The mighty high altar around 1750/1760 shows the altarpiece of the Assumption , painted by Josef Weiß and bears larger-than-life carved figures of the Saints Sebastian , Johann Nepomuk , Johannes Sarkander and Florian . In the church there is a tabernacle in relief with rocaille work . The north side altar around 1700 shows the image of All Saints' Day . The southern side altar shows the image of the Glory of St. Isidore with a view of the place with Tüßling Castle by Johann Paul Vogl around 1730. The Rococo pulpit has gold-plated reliefs. In niches in the nave walls are carved figures of Saints Isidore and Notburga in costumes. The door fittings and the font on the tower ground floor are Romanesque. The confessionals and the cheeks were made around 1730.

Cemetery chapel

The parish church is surrounded by a cemetery, which expands to the south. The cemetery chapel in the north was built in the 15th century as an ossuary with a net vault .
