history
A Chadalhoch de chürchperch (* 1094, † 1135) was documented as early as 1120. In a feudal mission to the Passau bishopric from 1263, Kirchberg is called a "fortress". Carolus von Kirchberg sold his third share in Kirchberg with all Passau fiefdoms to Ulrich von Tannberg . In 1398 Leopold von Kirchberg gave Wilhering Abbey a fiefdom for Staudach near Ofteringen . The Kirchbergers were servants of the Schaunberger in the middle of the 15th century . Siegmund von Kirchberg († 1468) was even a lawyer for the Schaunberger in 1445. In 1454 he received Mistelbach Castle and the Kammerhube near Schönering for his services from Count Johann von Schaunberg , as he had moved to the Holy Land with Count Bernhard under Duke Friedrich of Styria . Bernhard and Sebastian von Kirchberg received permission from Emperor Maximilian I in 1516 to rebuild the dilapidated Kirchberg castle stables .
In 1629 Kirchberg came to the imperial toll collector Georg von Kauthen from Linz . Adam Christoph von Kauthen († 1768) was promoted to baron in 1737 and count in 1760. In 1692 Rudolf von Eiselsberg became a carer on Kirchberg. It is not known when the castle was abandoned.
Kirchberg castle ruins today
The so-called small Burgstall forms the substructure of Kirchberg Castle. The castle ruin lies on a rock head that slopes steeply towards the Danube . Access is only possible from the land side. At the time of its existence, the castle was protected by two moats carved out of the rock . The lining walls that were erected to build the castle walls on them can still be seen. On the side facing Obermühl there are two rock chambers that were accessible from Burgplatz.
The Meierhof belonging to the castle is still managed.
