geography

Geographical location

The place Ofteringen is located in the southwest of the Federal Republic of Germany near the border with Switzerland . Ofteringen is separated from the Wutach by the B 314 .

structure

The village of Ofteringen and the residential area with restaurant Rewental (Reuental) belong to Ofteringen .

history

The name of the village, through the ending -ingen, indicates an Alemannic foundation and "means' among the members of the Ofteri." Ofteringen had its own nobility. "

The first evidence for the noble Ofteringer are “the documents issued in 1239 and 1245 on the occasion of the transfer of a property to Lauchringen by Ritter Gerung, known as Strubel, to the St. Blasien monastery. [... He] belonged to the von Ofteringen family who, through marriage, came into possession of the tithe rights in Ober- and Unterlauchringen in the 15th century . "

The noble family of Ofteringen is mentioned again in 1251. There were three silver crescent moons in the red escutcheon. In 1395 Burkart and Friedrich von Ofteringen are mentioned, they lived in Stühlingen. “At the beginning of the 15th century, the lords of Ofteringen left their ancestral seat, which was passed on to the lords of Erzingen , and moved to Waldshut. Hanmann von Ofteringen bought the village of Gurtweil in 1421. "

“The last of the family, Karl von Ofteringen, established the Rheinau monastery as the heir to his small rule. It consisted of the noble estate, castle and village of Ofteringen. After the death of the noble, who died in 1687, a legal dispute broke out over the inheritance between the Rheinau monastery and the landgrave of Stühlingen . It ended with the acceptance of rule to the monastery in 1683. "

The monastery exercised high and low jurisdiction and was “until 1803 the seat of a governor of Rheinau. [...] In 1806 Ofteringen also became Baden. "

Marienkloster in the castle building

"The ownership [of the castle] passed from the Baden state to Sabine Schneider von Sinsheim", who founded the Marienburg convent , which still exists today.

The coat of arms on the main building of the Reuentaler Mühle , built in 1785 as it stands today, "shows the noble families of Offtringen and von Erzingen."

“On October 12, 1796 […] the place was set on fire when the French passed through. It is attributed to the intercession of the Madonna of Grace von Todtmoos that the place was saved from complete destruction. The community of Ofteringen had a votive plaque installed in the church in Todtmoos , which can still be seen today. "

In the First World War, Ofteringen had 9 fatalities.

The incorporation into the community of Wutöschingen took place on January 1st, 1971.

In the mid-1920s the village had 210 inhabitants, and in 2011 Ofteringen had around 330 inhabitants.

Klosterschüer
  • The most striking building in Ofteringen is Ofteringen Castle . It forms the core building of the Marienburg monastery founded in 1862 . At this point the monastery buildings were already in place. The new chapel was built in 1741 and the Klosterschüer in 1713 by Abbot Gerold Zurlauben (Abbot from 1697 to 1735) of the Rheinau Monastery as a tithe barn. Around 1870 it was bought by the present monastery. It has been used for cultural events since the renovation in 1988.
  • The Reuentaler Mühle , the town hall and the former school house are also located in Ofteringen .

On Sundays in summer, feeders to the Wutachtalbahn run on the railway line parallel to the main road . Since September 2018, a temporary platform has been the terminus and starting point for a school train connection to Wutöschingen / Eggingen set up by the Blumberg railway company twice a day .
