Burgwitz is part of the municipality of Kospoda in the Saale-Orla district .
Geography and history
Burgwitz is located on the southern edge of the central Orla valley, about one kilometer south of Neustadt an der Orla . It is in the east adjacent to Moder joke , in the west to Kospoda and south to Stone Bridge .
A trickle rises above the village, which passes through the village underground and is partly fed by the local pond . This small brook comes to the surface at the northern end of the town and flows halfway between Burgwitz and Neustadt into the Siechenbach.
Burgwitz was recorded in the past under different names or in different spellings. In 1324 the place was called Borchwitz. In an old local lexicon of Saxony, written by the bookseller and publisher August Schumann (1773 to 1826), the old place names Brochwitz and Bruchwitz were also mentioned for the village of Burgwitz.
There was already a Romanesque chapel before 1294 , which was converted into today's church in 1320 .
On March 1, 1951, Burgwitz was incorporated into the municipality of Kospoda.
The place has around 80 residents as well as small and medium-sized businesses.
