Burma VJ - Reports from a Locked Country is a Danish documentary drama directed by Anders Østergaard from 2008. The film follows the demonstrations in Myanmar in 2007 against the military dictatorship in Burma . The film was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Documentary in 2010 .

criticism
The documentary was generally well received. For example, Rotten Tomatoes only had two negative reviews out of 59 reviews. According to the consensus, the film is a "powerful, visceral docu-drama". A summary of the reviews at Metacritic also gives a Metascore of 82 out of 100 points. The main point of criticism of the film was according to the critics in the dramatization of some scenes, whereby the reenactment of some scenes caused controversy. Robert Davis, an editor of Paste magazine , said Østergaard "blurs the line between what is real and what is recreated."
Awards
After its publication, the docu-drama received many critics and audience awards. In 2009 Burma VJ received the World Cinema Documentary Film Editing Award at the Sundance Film Festival . In the same year the film won an award in the Investigative Documentary Feature category at the San Francisco International Film Festival . Burma VJ was one of the nominated films for Best Documentary at the 2010 Academy Awards , but lost to The Bay .
