description

Burmannia itoana is a perennial, leaf-green, pale bluish throughout, unbranched to seldom branched, the stem grows thick, thread-like herbaceous plant , which reaches a height of 5 to 15 centimeters at flowering time. It is mycotrophic . A rhizome is either cylindrical in shape, creeping or absent, the few roots are thickened and short. The leaves are 2.3 to 3.3 millimeters long. They are absent at the base and only occur sporadically on the stem, where they are scale-like, ovate-lanceolate, tapering to a point and close-fitting.

The inflorescence is one or two to three flowered. The upright, short-stalked flowers with a length of around 2.5 millimeters are 8 to 11 millimeters long and cleistogamous. The flower tube is cylindrical, triangular and 3.5 to 5.5 millimeters long, the 1.1 to 2.1 millimeter wide wings are halved wedge-shaped and run from the base of the outer flower lobes to the middle or below the base of the ovary . The outer lobes are 1.5 to 2 millimeters long, ovate-triangular, erect, fleshy, thickened and with a pointed outer end, the inner circular and very small. The stamens are sessile and start in the throat just below the inner lobes, the connective is thickened "T" -shaped and has two thick, lateral arms that carry the thecae , a spur is missing. The stylus is as long as the flower tube and thick, thread-shaped, at its end are the three almost sessile stigmas .

The ovaries are approximately spherical and 2 to 3.7 millimeters long. The roughly spherical, 2.5 to 4.5 millimeter long capsule opens along transverse slits. The seeds are numerous, yellow and elliptical.
