Burnin 'Down the House: Live at the House of Blues is a live album by Etta James released on Private Music in 2002.

General

The album was recorded at the House of Blues , Hollywood , California on December 9, 2001. For the most part, the recordings belong to the soul genre (two hits from the 1970s by Al Green , her own hits At Last and I'd Rather Go Blind ), but urban blues are also represented, with a medley whose composition is unusual is. I Just Want to Make Love to You , a number written by Willie Dixon for Muddy Waters , is linked to the rock song Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf . Even BB King Rock Me Baby is interpreted by it. The only criticism that some reviewers make is that James, who released few live albums, presents few of her hits on this album. If you compare James' early recordings with this one, it is surprising how good the voice still is in old age, according to one critic.

She is accompanied by the twelve-member Roots Band , in which her two sons Donto and Sametto form the rhythm section. The horns and guitars create a sound with the relaxed precision of the classic Stax or Muscle Shoals studio musicians.

The album was nominated for a Grammy in 2003 as the best contemporary blues album . It took first place in the Billboard Top Blues Albums.

James style is fiery, but still cool and unsentimental)
