Burt Shonberg

Burt Shonberg (sometimes also Burt Schoenberg , born March 30, 1933 in Revere , Massachusetts / USA; died September 16, 1977 in Seal Beach , California / USA) was an American painter.

At first he was self-taught , but after completing his military service he studied at the Art Center of Los Angeles and soon had a large number of fans. From 1956, his mentor and agent was Forrest J Ackerman , who also brought him into contact with the film world. Shonberg often found his motifs in the field of fantasy , science fiction and esotericism , whereby Shonberg was more of a representational and only rarely an abstract painter.

The large-format paintings that Shonberg produced on behalf of the AIP film company for the Edgar Allan Poe film adaptations " Die Verfluchten " (1960, director: Roger Corman , main actor: Vincent Price ) and " Lebendig Buried " (1962, Direction: Corman, leading actors: Ray Milland and Hazel Court ) and which had an important meaning especially in "The Cursed", but which are now considered lost and can only be seen in the films mentioned.

Shoenberg's works are u. a. in the private collections of Sally Kellerman and Ringo Starr , the only picture certified in Germany in that of Gerd J. Pohl .
