Butlin Coachworks
Butlin Coachworks was a British manufacturer of automobile bodies . The company was active in the 1930s.
Company history
Butlin Coachworks was based in Coventry . The company was founded in 1932 by James Butlin, who was previously a co-owner of the bodybuilder Charlesworth Motor Bodies . In the 1920s, Charlesworth produced standardized bodies for chassis from Morris and other manufacturers in series, as well as individual individual bodies . In 1931 Charlesworth was insolvent after years of falling orders and was liquidated. James Butlin and a few other employees then founded their own company, which should succeed Charlesworth.
In the 1930s, Butlin produced standard bodies for the upper-class manufacturers Daimler and Lanchester , both of which belonged to the armaments group Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA). In addition, at least one individual body was created on an Alvis chassis.
Butlin ceased operations before the outbreak of World War II .
