Gordon & Co. was a British manufacturer of automobile bodies . The Birmingham- based company existed from 1921 to 1939. It mainly manufactured superstructures for Austin chassis ; In addition, other chassis were also clad at the customer's request.

Company history

Gordon & Co. started operations in 1921. The company was headquartered in Sparkbrook, a part of the city of Birmingham, while the factory facilities were a bit out of the way. Initially, Gordon built imported chassis of American origin, mainly Ford's Model T , but also chassis from Chevrolet , Overland and Dodge . From 1923 Gordon put the emphasis on British Austin chassis. This was where bodies for all chassis sizes were created, with Gordon offering different body versions (sedans, convertibles, coupés and landaulets) for each chassis. Gordon's superstructures were described as "not very fancy, but very valuable". At any rate, since the early 1930s, Gordon's bodies have been sold through regular Austin dealers. During this time, Gordon competed mainly with Flewitt , who was also based in Birmingham and served a comparable target group. The Gordon bodies were mostly cheaper than Flewitt's bodies.

From 1933 Gordon also manufactured individual superstructures for chassis from Vauxhall and Standard . But here it stayed with small numbers.

In 1939 Gordon & Co. ceased operations.
