Cătălin Constantin Munteanu (born January 26, 1979 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player . The midfielder played a total of 336 games in the Romanian League 1 and the Spanish Primera División . In 1997 and 1998 he won the Romanian championship with Steaua Bucharest and in 2007 with Dinamo Bucharest .
Career
Cătălin Munteanu's career began in 1996 at the age of 17 at Steaua Bucharest and initially rose steeply. The goal-scoring midfielder was able to win the championship in his first year . He was able to repeat this success in the following year , where he also contributed 17 hits.
In the summer of 1998, he moved to UD Salamanca in the Spanish Primera División for a transfer fee of 1.8 million US dollars . After relegation , he played with Salamanca for another two years in the Segunda División before Munteanu had the opportunity to return to the Primera División by moving to Espanyol Barcelona . There he could not assert himself and after a year in 2002 he moved back to the Segunda División to Albacete Balompié .
In Albacete he succeeded in being promoted to the House of Lords again, although he could no longer build on the goal danger of previous years. After relegation in the first year after promotion, he left the club in the winter break of 2004/05 and joined Real Murcia in the Segunda División.
In 2005 Munteanu returned to Romania and played for Dinamo Bucharest from then on . After he was rarely used in the 2005/06 season , he helped in the following season as a regular player to win the championship. Although a regular player, he left Dinamo in the summer of 2008 and moved to league rivals FC Brașov . After two placements in midfield, he returned to Dinamo in the summer of 2010. There he reached the cup final in 2011, but lost to Steaua Bucharest . He and his team made up for this success a year later . In the summer of 2014 he returned to FC Brașov. Half a year later he joined league rivals FC Viitorul Constanța . There he ended his career after three missions in the summer of 2015.
National team
At the age of 18, Munteanu made the leap into the Romanian national soccer team , where he made his debut against Spain on November 19, 1997 . Although he was a regular member of the squad, national coach Emerich Jenei did not appoint him to the squad for the 2000 European Football Championship . Munteanu played the last of his 17 international matches on June 2, 2001 against Hungary .
